As a Makeup Artist one of the top questions women ask me is: “What is the best mascara?”
In the past, when I worked at the makeup counters for companies including Sephora, Nordstrom & Bloomingdales I was able to test many types of mascara. Now, as Chief Beauty Officer at Beauty Artist Group, I continue to buy and test the latest products to provide only the best for our clients. Based on my research, here are my TOP 3 MASCARA PICKS:
#1 FULL BLOWN BY LAURA MERCIER
Not many people think of Laura Mercier when it comes to mascara, BUT after many side-by-side comparisons Laura Mercier’s Full Blown Mascara wins hands down. The mascara does not smudge, clump, or run even in the hot summer weather. It goes on smoothly and adds length and volume. This mascara holds a curl and actually does what it claims!
#2 THEY’RE REAL BY BENEFIT
They’re Real is another mascara that I absolutely love and is a close contender for first place. This mascara lengthens curls, and volumizes. It also applies evenly, separates lashes, and has a great brush. I also love this mascara because it doesn’t weigh my lashes down. What more could you want from a mascara? Plus, Beauty Blogger Cara Brook (@maskCara) recently named this one as her favorite on our @BeautyArististGrp twitter feed.
#3 PHENOMEN’EYES BY GIVENCHY
Phenomen’Eyes perfectly curls and separates lashes. This mascara takes my lashes to a whole new length. It has a patented round sphere at the tip of the precision wand that reaches every lash and adapts to all eye shapes. Givenchy’s formula makes your lashes look longer and thicker and is extremely dark.
BONUS PICK: ORGANIC WEAR BY PHYSICIANS FORMULA
Maria and Nicole from our social media team both recommend Organic Wear mascara. I haven’t tried it yet myself but they both love it and wear it. Maria swears by it because it doesn’t clump, makes lashes look super long and full, doesn’t irritate her eyes, and comes off easily without special makeup removers. You can’t beat the price (this one is available at most local supermarkets and pharmacies) and you feel good knowing it’s 100% free of harsh chemicals, synthetic preservatives, parabens, fibers, and dyes.
As a wedding industry professional, the one question I am asked time and time again is; “Are you sure I can’t wash my hair before my event?”.
The answer answer is; Yes I am sure, DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR!
This is why:
Clean hair is not easy to work with. When your hair is freshly washed it is very soft, making it hard for your hair to hold the style that you want. This does not mean that you should go days without washing your hair before it is going to be styled for your event. Stylists don’t want your hair to be “dirty”, we just want your hair’s natural oils work their magic. They’ll make it look shinier and healthier, and help keep whatever style you have in place for a longer period of time.
For the best and longest lasting results, there are some steps you can take before you get your hair styled:
If you have straight hair, blow dry your hair with your head upside down. This will add body and volume to your hair that you typically wouldn’t see.
If you have curly hair, let your hair air dry, or if you prefer to use a blow dryer, make sure you attach a diffuser. I also suggest using a anti-frizz hair serum or cream to prevent any unwanted fly aways or frizz.
One of the most frequently asked questions I get from my clients is, “Does my makeup ever expire?”. As a makeup artist I am always purchasing new products and ditching my old ones, so I never really knew the exact protocol for this. Hope this helps, and let me know what you think!
